The Giro paints Italy pink 100 days after its start

The main monuments of the 40 cities through which the 2024 Giro d'Italia will pass were dyed pink during the night of this Thursday to kick off the countdown to the start of the known as 'Corsa Rosa', which will have place in 100 days, next May 4.

From north to south, from the emblematic Spanish Steps in Rome to the Mole Antonelliana in Turin, passing through emblematic places in Naples, Genoa or Perugia, Italy became a pink country for a few hours.

The now classic countdown to the start of the 107th edition of the Giro once again left images to remember. Until next January 28, places as recognized and visited as the Spanish Steps (Rome), will be illuminated with the representative color from sunset until sunrise.

An initiative that was already done in past years and that illuminated other monuments such as the Trevi Fountain (Rome).

On May 4, in 100 days, the first of the 21 stages that will travel through 40 cities in Italy will begin. The first ride will be in Casa Savoia, on the outskirts of Turin, 136 km to reach the center of the city.

The Giro will end in Rome on May 26, after 3,321 km and 42,900 meters of elevation gain.

It will be a special Giro d'Italia due to the participation of the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, from the UAE, who will compete in this prestigious competition for the first time in his career. He will do it just a month before the Tour de France, in search of the historic double that has not been signed since 1998, when the Italian Marco Pantani achieved it.

The Slovenian is facing a great opportunity to do the Giro-Tour double without suffering as he would have done in other years, since in this edition the almost 10,000 meters less gradient that the Italian route has compared to other years stands out.

With the objective of the Giro-Tour double clear, Pogacar is the top favorite to cross the Roman Forum where the Giro ends as 'Maglia Rosa' (winner) and to inherit the success of Marco Pantani.

In addition, the Slovenian intends to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, although he commented that "they are more of a bet than a goal."
