In the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia we see how some cormorants expectantly contemplate the Medes Islands, from their particular islet in Molinet, in L'Estartit, in the Baix Empordà, in a break given by the rains of recent days.

Las Medas are declared a Specially Protected Area of importance for the Mediterranean. It is one of the most important and largest maritime reserves in Catalonia.

These wild islands, located just 900 meters from the coast of L'Estartit and protected for more than 20 years, are a true paradise for scuba diving or boat trips. Its main attraction lies in the richness and diversity of the marine and terrestrial fauna and flora that it houses.

They had formerly been the preferred hiding place for pirates and, later, they were used by the Army as a surveillance place. They were inhabited until 1934, but currently the only construction is the Meda Gran lighthouse, the protagonist of the other image, captured one morning with low clouds.

The cormorant, when it comes out of the water, spreads its wings to dry itself, since unlike most water birds its wings are not completely waterproof.

And the cormorant captures fish by propelling itself with its legs and diving for more than a minute in the water, being able to reach a depth of 10 meters.
