The compact electric SUV with a neo-retro aesthetic called to attract sustainable drivers

The electric car manufacturer Rivian has just presented the R3, an elegant SUV that aims to be the most surprising vehicle in the range. Just a few weeks ago the North American brand attracted attention in Europe with the presentation of its new R2, a smaller version of the enormous R1S. Now, he intends to hit the table again with a completely new car.

With a neo-retro aesthetic inspired by the compact SUVs of the early 1980s, refined lines and its own profile, the Rivian R3 is an attractive electric SUV with urban and country features.

The front is especially striking, with the brand's characteristic vertical headlights that look like those of a space aircraft, and the original tailgate with a large, single light, which functions as both a position light and a brake light. The sunroof also stands out, which provides the interior with very pleasant natural light.

As it is designed for adventure, the rear window is practicable and opens independently of the tailgate to discreetly leave bags and backpacks. In addition, it has an original front trunk. The wheels, for their part, are very attractive and are reminiscent of the brand's logo.

The car is built on the same platform as the R2, but has a slightly shorter wheelbase of 2.80 meters, making it Rivian's most compact model. It is available with one, two or three motor electric powertrains. The first option will have rear-wheel drive, while the other two will offer 4x4 all-wheel drive.

According to the brand, the fastest version has an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3 seconds and it is expected that the battery's autonomy will allow it to travel 480 kilometers without having to stop to recharge.

There will be a sportier and more off-road version, the RX3, which will be available only with the three-engine configuration. This version will have thicker tires and greater headroom, as well as aesthetic details designed for those nostalgic for the offroad of yesteryear.

The interior of the car is sober and clean, and its pleasant seats give it an elegant and minimalist air. In addition, both the front and rear seats are foldable, which will be very useful if you want to take the car camping, for example.

The digital gauges are hidden behind the steering wheel and a prominent touch infotainment system stands out in the center of the dashboard. It also has the latest in technology, including several cameras and radars.

Rivian's new R3 model will be manufactured and sold initially in the United States, and from 2026 it will arrive on the European continent at a price lower than the 40,000 euros of its older brother, the R2. You can see more images of the vehicle in the video that accompanies this article.
