Relief in the executive presidency of Familia Torres

After 22 years of experience in the family business, the general director of Familia Torres, Miquel Torres Maczassek (1974), will take over as executive president of the group from his father Miguel Agustín Torres Riera. This has been agreed by the Familia Torres advisory council. Through a statement it has been announced that, in preparation for the position, Miquel Torres will carry out, for a minimum period of one year, various training courses and will analyze projects and businesses "that can provide maximum value in the company's governance function." . During this transition process he will continue to be part of the advisory board. While this procedure is completed, executive management functions “to guarantee the good governance of the company” will continue in the hands of Miguel A. Torres, with the support of the current management team. Miquel Torres Maczassek has declined to comment on the replacement.

All of this has triggered the start of a selection process for the incorporation of a new general director from outside the family. According to company sources, the first interviews with possible candidates have already been carried out. He has also revealed the return to Torres, now as a member of the advisory board, of Jorge Alberto Grosse after leaving the general management of González Byass, a Jerez group to which he joined, at the same time, after leaving Torres in 2006.

After working for consumer goods companies (Danone) and perfume companies (Carolina Herrera, of the Puig corporation), Miquel Torres Maczassek joined the family business in 2001. And he became general manager in September 2012 after having held the positions marketing director, general director of the Jean Leon winery – which is today run by his sister Mireia Torres – and executive president of the group's Chilean winery, founded in 1979 in Curicó. He held this last position for three years.

Representative of the fifth family generation of a company with more than 150 years of experience, he has a degree in Economics and Business from ESADE and the Kenan-Flager business school in North Carolina. He also studied oenology at the Rovira i Virgili University of Tarragona. His father joined the family business in 1963, and at age 71, in 1991, he became executive president just after his father Miguel Torres Carbó died. Today, just shy of turning 83 and with a group that reached 270 million euros in turnover in the last financial year, he takes a step aside. Miguel A. Torres, who in 2022 received the Grand Cross of the Order of Agrarian Merit, has stood out for his commitment against the climate emergency.
