Product Marketing 101: The Importance of Packaging

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when it comes to marketing and selling a product? Perhaps the overall quality of the product itself? It’s understandable, as anyone who tries an inferior product will likely never do so again. They would probably even get onto social media and complain, hurting the product's chances even more. However, there is something that is just as important, if not more so than the quality of your product, the packaging.

The blandness can overshadow the quality

Many people who enter stores are often unsure about what they're going to purchase. Only when they see the product do they genuinely decide to buy it. If your product has bland packaging, even if it works as intended, it's likely that it won't experience much success. Many people will walk right by it without a second thought. It’s the main reason why packaging companies and contract packing are so important in marketing a product.

Catching their eye

To convince someone that you have a quality product, they first need to use it and see for themselves. While this is all well and good, there’s still the issue of convincing them to use the product in the first place. If the packaging isn’t enough to catch their eye, chances are the consumer will walk by and you'll have to get lucky for someone to try your product. On the other hand, if your packaging is dynamic and creative, you'll have a much higher chance of people giving it a chance. The more creative it is, the more likely it will be for the consumer to sing its praises when they finally use the product and are impressed by what it can do.

Quality packaging gets people talking

As previously stated, the consumer will be more likely to sing its praises if what they bought was not only a quality product but also has stand-out packaging. On the other hand, if the packaging is bland and the product is excellent, the consumer will be happy with their purchase but probably won’t be as inclined to talk about it. You need to give potential customers something to talk about when they purchase your product - and the packaging is the way to go.

Choose the right packing company

Finally, there are plenty of different packing companies. To make the right decision, you'll need to check testimonials to see if they're reliable and produce quality packaging. You'll also need to investigate their finished products to see if they have the creativity to elevate what you're selling.

To conclude, while it’s perfectly fine to have average packaging for your product, you’ll be giving the items you’re selling a much better chance by opting for more creative and quality packaging. It’s essential not to underestimate what quality labelling and packaging can do for your item, as it can make or break its success.
