Tesla's Cybertruck was conceived as an indestructible pickup truck. So much so that Elon Musk himself has boasted on occasion that he is “bulletproof.” However, since the first examples began to be delivered at the end of last year, information has not stopped occurring that seems to enhance the rumor that this long-awaited electric pickup is a failure.
The latest alarm that has arisen among Cybertruck owners is that, despite being covered by a stainless steel frame designed to resist even a gunshot... the truck rusts in the rain. Of course, the surprise is not such if one looks closely at the pickup's maintenance manual, which already hinted that it would require more attention than one would expect.
On the cybertruckownersclub.com forum, several Cybertruck owners share their experiences since receiving their copies. In recent days, several users have reported on this portal that their trucks have small orange specks of rust after being exposed to the rain.
One of the most recent and commented threads on the forum is that of user vertigo3pc, who reports that he received his Cybertruck on February 1 and, with the rain in Los Angeles, he noticed that corrosion was forming on the metal, in accordance with what Other people had already reported. He decided to document the deterioration to make an appointment with technical service.
“They took the truck back and washed the exterior, to verify that the corrosion was not dirt,” he explains. At the facilities they told him that they had a guide on how to solve it, but that they did not have the necessary tools at that time and that they had not carried out the repair before. They noted the corrosion and told him they would call him next month, when they received the tools, to proceed with the repair service.
He stresses that “the rust flecks are more prominent on the top metal that rises above the bed of the truck more than anywhere else, but the stains are definitely everywhere on the metal,” he laments.
The most experienced users are not caught by surprise by this situation. As much as the Cybertruck is “bulletproof” and boasts of having stainless steel, the pickup's instruction manual already gave a clue about the demanding conditions of maintenance and care of the body.
The text recommends that users “immediately” remove corrosive substances such as “grease, oil, bird droppings, tree resin, dead insects, tar stains, road salt and industrial waste.” In addition, this cleaning should be almost constant, “Do not wait until the Cybertruck needs to be washed completely," adds the manufacturer in the relevant document.
And it is not worth doing this cleaning in any way, because in order not to damage the bodywork it is advisable to use denatured alcohol to remove tar stains. For stubborn grease stains, they recommend using mild soap and water.
