Moveo Awards: the annual event that supports the automotive industry, innovation and sustainability

The automobile sector in Europe is heading inexorably towards the total electrification of the vehicle fleet. The European Union has thus charted a path of no return and has set the year 2035 as the expiration date for combustion engines.

But despite the decisions made, it is a somewhat uncertain outlook, since it remains to be seen how each and every one of the countries that make up the European Union will face this revolution. And there are important aspects to be resolved. Some major manufacturers, for example, have floated the idea of a possible extension for heat engines. And it remains to be seen how the automobile industry will face this new reality.

It is also often not a clear situation for motorists, who receive a lot of information about new models and technologies, but not always in the same direction.

In any case, in a context of exciting changes and challenges in mobility, something that affects us all, La Vanguardia's Moveo Awards function as a great mechanism to give meaning to this complex reality.

Awards, now in their fourth edition, that value and take into consideration business activity around automobiles and mobility. A contest that is already a reference in the sector and that, in addition to companies, also rewards people, who are ultimately the visible face of each manufacturer or entity.

Not in vain, the Moveo Awards were born with the desire to bring together initiatives and attract the attention of a sector that is in full recovery after some difficult years. And that spirit is also reflected in the organization of the Moveo Awards. Awards that, like each edition, have four different categories, with the Moveo Car of the Year as the main award.

The Moveo 2023 Awards are once again sponsored by the companies Cepsa and MAPRE, and this year also with the collaboration of Alsa. The awards gala will be held on November 23 in Madrid, in the MAPFRE Foundation auditorium, and will be attended by the well-known sports journalist Nira Juanco as host of the event.

A ceremony that, without a doubt, will once again be a useful meeting point for the most important personalities related to a sector that in Spain represents 10% of the national GDP and that employs more than 10% of the active population. During the gala, awards will be presented in the following four categories.

Considered the most relevant award of the contest, in this 2023 edition it has a list of 10 candidates. It includes cars destined to be the protagonists of the season in any commercial segment.

This trophy serves as recognition of the effort aimed at implementing environmentally friendly production processes, associated with renewable energy sources. As well as the global promotion of projects to protect the environment.

Award that aims to highlight the inventive capacity of companies related to the universe of mobility. When it seems that everything is done, something new always emerges capable of revolutionizing the world.

The ability of a character to influence the evolution of people's mobility with their leadership is valued, whether through the automobile or the new forms that are gradually arriving in our society. The sporting career of relevant figures from the world of motorsport is also rewarded.

The 10 cars selected as candidates are new models, all of the latest generation, which confirm current trends in the European market. That is to say, electrified technologies have a very prominent presence, as do SUV-type bodies.

The final decision, which determines the winning car, depends on the criteria of the readers, whose opinion is weighted at 40% (the remaining 60% depends on a jury made up of experts).

The jury of the Moveo 2023 Awards is made up of Pere Guardiola (General Commercial Director of Grupo Godó), Francesc Pla (journalist of La Vanguardia/Moveo), Cristina Cubero (deputy director of Mundo Deportivo) and Agustín de Tena (Editorial Advisor of the magazine Entrepreneurs). Design, technology, innovation and sustainability have been the sections that the jury has especially taken into account when deliberating.

The cars selected by the jury as candidates for Moveo Car of the Year 2023 are: Audi Q8, BMW 5 Series, Fiat 600e, Honda ZR-V, Hyundai Kona, Kia EV9, Lexus LBX, Peugeot E-3008, Renault Espace and Toyota C -HR.

In short, we will have to wait until the 23rd to find out which car takes over from Renault Austral, the brilliant winner of the 2022 edition, as well as the names of the rest of the winners.
