More power, better performance and greater autonomy for the electric Hyundai Ioniq 5

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 improves its position in the market. This 100% electric model adopts a package of improvements that increase the capacity of the largest available battery, which goes from 72.6 kWh to 77.4 kWh of gross capacity.

The most powerful versions of the model, which to date had powers of 218 CV and 306 CV, increase their performance to reach 228 CV and 325 CV, respectively.

The increase in power represents an improvement of 0.1 seconds in the pure acceleration figure from 0 to 100 km/h. Therefore, the tested 228 hp version is capable of reaching this speed in 7.3 seconds, a very interesting figure for those who want a strong response.

The new battery makes it possible to increase the range of the vehicle on one charge. According to the WLTP approval obtained by the new versions, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 in its 228 hp version goes from 481 to 507 km of maximum autonomy. In the version with a power of 325 CV, the increase allows going from 430 to 545 km.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 incorporates other novelties, among which a function that is responsible for pre-climatizing the energy accumulator stands out, achieving an optimal temperature to start its recharge once the destination station is entered in the browser.

Another novelty is the adoption of selective frequency dampers, which increase ride comfort levels and improve response on uneven surfaces. New body colors are also offered and the option, already available on the new Ioniq 6, of having exterior cameras that act as rear-view mirrors.

One of the strengths of the Hyundai electric is the speed of charging, being able to support charging infrastructures of 400 V and 800 V. The benefit is the possibility of charging at very high powers with less current intensity. For example, with a 350 kW direct current super fast charger, it can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. To have 100 km of autonomy, less than 5 minutes are needed.

The Ioniq 5 has a very interesting added value, such as the V2L function. This technology allows devices such as electric bicycles, scooters or camping equipment to be charged, functioning as a charger on wheels.

This feature can supply up to 3.6 kW of power and works via a V2L port located under the vehicle's second row seats, or via an external charging socket that can be used as a power source.

The driving position is comfortable and it has height and depth adjustments for the steering column. The front seats incorporate height adjustment, combined with electric height adjustments and lumbar adjustment in the front seats.

The driver can focus on viewing the road, thanks to the information projection system on the windshield, which has an augmented reality function.

Comfort extends to the rear seats, which offer enough width for three occupants and have considerable space between rows. These rear seats can recline and move forwards or backwards up to 135mm. In addition, the movable center console can be slid up to 140 mm, creating even greater freedom of movement.

The cabin is spacious, there are numerous holes to deposit objects and the materials used have a remarkable overall quality. The trunk has a remarkable capacity, 531 liters of useful volume, expandable to a maximum of 1,587 liters if the rear seats are folded down.

The Ioniq 5 is a stable vehicle, with progressive reactions, ideal for traveling with high levels of ride comfort, now enhanced with the new damping. The mechanical response is smooth and, if the Sport driving mode is used, it provides high performance.

During the vehicle test carried out by Moveo La Vanguardia, which included all types of roads, the consumption reflected by the vehicle's computer was around 20 kWh/100 km. This figure allows us to approach the real 400 km of autonomy and, thanks to the 350 kW charger, it is possible to add an additional 296 km of autonomy in just a quarter of an hour.

Paddles located behind the steering wheel allow you to easily regulate the intensity of regenerative braking and thus extend the range of the vehicle. It also has the i-Pedal mode that allows you to drive with hardly a foot on the brake pedal.

In order to enhance dynamic safety, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 also has a practical automatic hold function, which acts according to the distance from preceding vehicles. The latest version of Hyundai SmartSense ensures high levels of safety and comfort, including monitoring of the driver's attention level.

It is the first Hyundai to offer the Highway Driving Assist 2 system, assistance for driving on the road and offers all kinds of driver aids, including emergency braking assistance, signal recognition, blind spot detection, involuntary shift warning rail, etc.
