The Mediterranean corridor continues to advance and the access channel to Valencia is one of its most important pieces. Yesterday Adif took stock of the execution of the work and took pride in its progress: its president said that it is completing its first year “completing phases” and with 500 million euros of contracted investment, 75% of the total.
The president of Adif, Ángel Contreras, appeared yesterday at the Joaquín Sorolla station in València together with the Government delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, to take stock of this first year of development of the "most ambitious" railway and urban planning action. of the Community”, in his own words. In the station lobby, both inaugurated an exhibition whose purpose is to share and disseminate among neighbors, travelers and Valencians the evolution of this action and the impact of the project. The future appearance of the city largely depends on this work.
The works, developed by Adif AV with the direct involvement so far of more than 300 professionals, are advancing in their main actions: structures, roofs, works at the station and detours, among them, the most relevant to date, that of the Madrid-València high-speed line with the aim of freeing up space to address the execution of the structures of the future integration tunnel.
Adif highlights that in its balance that the levels of execution of this infrastructure - "key for the capital and the Mediterranean Corridor" - are achieved by fulfilling one of the priority objectives, the maintenance of railway circulation based on a planning of the works by phases compatible with traffic and passenger mobility. It was a priority to maintain traffic on what is already one of the fastest growing AVE lines in Spain.
In this sense, Contreras highlighted “the technical complexity and the turning point that this project represents for the transformation of the mobility of Valencians, because we will provide the railway system with greater capacity to accommodate more Cercanías and high-speed trains and we will promote the cohesion of the city's neighborhoods, with the integration of roads in the urban area and the liberation of a large space for citizens." The person in charge explained that "its transformative capacity transcends the city by being part of another of the most ambitious mobility projects for citizens and goods in our recent history, the Mediterranean corridor, which will connect us more with Europe."
The first phase of these major works is completed with the launch of the provisional detour of the Madrid-València connection: track 1 was put into service on April 27, on the night of Saturday the 4th the second track will be connected to the detour. after placing a track apparatus in its new position on the route from Castelló, and until May 12 the actions will be verified.
Another relevant aspect of the work is the expansion of the station. Adif acknowledged yesterday that progress is being made in the construction of the exterior building for commercial use by travelers and citizens, with an area of 2,000 square meters and that the structural work has practically been completed.
