A spectacular police operation was carried out in the vicinity of Salinas, in the Asturian municipality of Castrillón, where a driver behind the wheel of a stolen red Ford Fiesta was finally arrested after a long chase.

The action, which took place over several kilometers on the N-632 highway, was recorded on video by citizens and quickly disseminated through social networks. In the clip you can clearly see the recklessness of the fugitive and the persistence of the National Police. “The guy controls,” say the men who record.

During the chase, the driver of the stolen car made dangerous maneuvers, frequently invading the oncoming lane, which increased the danger for other road users. The authorities, using acoustic and visual signals, tried to warn other drivers, especially those coming in the opposite direction. This situation led to the vehicle being cornered on multiple occasions, but without initial success in arresting the fugitive.

The chase ended when the fugitive, in a desperate attempt to escape, took the exit at kilometer 102 in the direction of Salinas and Piedras Blancas. At this point, a Civil Guard patrol that had already been alerted tried to block the way. However, the driver accelerated sharply, prolonging the chase for a few more kilometers, until he was finally detained by authorities in Salinas.

After his arrest, the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 5 of Avilés, under the jurisdiction of a magistrate on duty, issued a provisional detention order without bail for the arrested person.

He is facing charges of reckless driving, disobedience and attacks on authority, according to sources from the Superior Court of Justice of Asturias. He is also accused of robbery and theft of use of a motor vehicle, although this last charge will be processed by the Mieres court.
