Lidl recalls this car cleaner because it could be confused with a soft drink

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has confirmed the withdrawal of the Robbyrob brand car paint cleaner and protector, which is sold in establishments of the Lidl supermarket chain, for misleading, given that the product label was written in German and its packaging and appearance They gave the impression that it was a soft drink rather than a cleaning item.

The withdrawal of this product comes after the consumer organization Facua denounced Walter Schmidt, the product's manufacturing company, last July before the General Directorate of Consumer Affairs and the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan) of the Ministry of Consumption for marketing this cleaner and protector in Spain in a format that could be confused with a soft drink.

In its letter, the organization referred to Royal Decree 770/1999, which approves the technical-health regulations for the production, circulation and trade of detergents and cleaners.

Point 4 of Article 8 establishes that "products that have a shape, smell, color, appearance, presentation, labeling, volume or size such that it is foreseeable that consumers , particularly children, confuse them with food products and therefore put them in their mouths, suck them or ingest them.

The alert about the online cleaner that exists for this purpose in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs was published on July 27 after receiving the notice from Catalonia as a result of the voluntary communication that Lidl made to this community.

The cleaner was on sale in all Lidl stores in Spain and was sold in a one-liter format with a red cap and a transparent bottle that showed the orange liquid inside, according to Facua. In addition, it was marked "with apricot fragrance", so the smell of this fruit could also lead to confusion.

The chain has informed consumers on its website so that they can return it, recovering the amount they paid on the day.
