Free Netflix, a Smart TV, 300 euros... These are the gifts that banks give

Banks are waging a battle to win customers and gifts have become their favorite weapons. The main entities in Spain have brought out their commercial artillery to seduce new customers and earn their loyalty. They give money, televisions or even return the amount of the Netflix subscription.

It is not a new practice, but in recent months the number of entities that have joined the fashion of gifts has multiplied. Now choosing an account no longer consists only of seeing which bank has the best conditions, charges less commissions or has more ATMs, but also to see which gives the best gift.

The experts from the financial product comparator HelpMyCash.com, who have investigated which are the best gifts from banks, point out that nobody gives four pesetas hard. “Gifts have a price. The client has to pay his part: assume a permanence commitment, direct deposit his salary, use the bank card... Is it worth it? It depends on the conditions and the value of the gift”, they explain.

BBVA reimburses the subscription to Netflix, Disney, HBO Max, PlayStation Plus, Spotify or DAZN for six months, up to a maximum of 9.99 euros per month, if paid with the Aqua debit card. To achieve this, all you have to do is open an online account at BBVA with the code SUSCRIPCION59. The account and the card do not have commissions and it is not necessary to direct deposit a salary, or receipts or maintain a minimum balance. Of course, the promotion is only for new customers. And it does not have permanence, something rare in this sector.

CaixaBank is committed to a classic: televisions. Give new customers who direct deposit their salary, pay three bills a quarter and make at least three card purchases every three months a 32-inch Smart TV if the salary is 1,200 euros or more or 50-inch if it is 2,500 euros or more. In this case, the permanence is two years fulfilling the previous conditions and two more years as a client, four in total. If these conditions are met, the Day to Day Account is free, but if they are not met, in addition to having to assume a penalty for the gift, the account will have commissions.

Undoubtedly, money is the most common claim. "El Sabadell, Abanca, Banco Santander, Cajamar, Unicaja or Imagin give away money," they comment on HelpMyCash.

Banco Sabadell, for example, gives 200 euros as a gift to new customers who sign up for the Commission-free Online Account and direct deposit a salary or pension of any amount or receive a monthly transfer of 700 euros. In addition, the account has a return of 2.5% APR up to 30,000 euros the first year, so you can also earn an additional 750 euros gross, in addition to the gift. The account has no maintenance fees and to enjoy the profitability it is not necessary to meet any requirement.

Another entity that has been using this strategy for a long time is Abanca, which rewards new customers who deposit their salary or pension of 1,200 euros or more and keep it for two years with a 300-euro gift. In addition, by domiciling the salary in the Clara Account, this income at 2% APR the first year up to 15,000 euros. The account has no commissions.

Santander is not far behind. New customers who open the Online Account without commissions can take 150 euros if they direct deposit a salary, pension or recurring income of 600 euros or more and keep it for two years. And if the income is 2,500 euros or more, the incentive grows to 350 euros. This account has no maintenance fees and the debit card is free.

Before accepting a permanence commitment and bonding requirements, it is worth asking yourself if the gift is worth it. As attractive as it may be, it should never be the only criteria for opening an account, just one more incentive, they point out at HelpMyCash.
