The president of the French Airports Union, Thomas Juin, has denounced that the numerous false bomb threats against airfields throughout the country registered in recent weeks have caused million-dollar losses.
Although at the moment no official evaluation has been carried out, Juin has announced in statements to the television station BFMTV that the false threats will have "an important and serious impact" that has amounted to "several million euros."
"Just yesterday there were a dozen airports affected in the region, five of them that still had to evacuate part of the terminal as a preventive measure," added the president of the French Airports Union.
In addition to the economic losses that these incidents entail, Juin has warned that false alerts also produce "a situation of tension" in the staff of employees at the affected airports.
Finally, asked if the conflict in the Middle East has a negative impact on airport activity, Juin has ruled out a precipitous drop in air traffic, although he has recognized that this is a sector in which "geopolitical factors always influence."
"We are in an eminently international sector (...) The sector is adapting to the situation and reviewing its flight programs accordingly," the French trade unionist concluded.
The French Ministry of Transport confirmed last Sunday that between October 18 and 22, nearly 70 false bomb alerts were sent to several of the country's main airports.
France is one of the main countries affected by the wave of false bomb threats registered in the context of the war in the Middle East between the Israel Defense Forces and the Palestinian militia Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
