Elon Musk recalls almost 4,000 Tesla Cybertrucks due to a serious accelerator problem

Hard blow for Tesla. The company led by Elon Musk has recalled 3,878 Cybertrucks in the United States after discovering a serious problem in the accelerator.

This type of pick-up has accelerator pedals that can detach at any time, causing the vehicle to accelerate unintentionally. Given the increased risk of crash, Musk has chosen to readjust and replace these pedals.

This call for review comes after the owner of a Cybertruck, José Martínez, published a somewhat worrying video on his TikTok account @el.chepito1985 last week.

In it, you can see how the pedal cover comes off and causes it to get stuck, a factory fault that causes the driver to be unable to control the car. As expected, the video went viral, drawing the attention of the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

After contacting Tesla, the NHTSA has indicated on its website that this revision affects all Cybertrucks manufactured between November 13, 2023 and April 4, 2024. Musk's company introduced a new accelerator pedal on April 17 , so the latest Cybertrucks do not have the aforementioned defect.

Faced with this problem, Tesla has made it clear to the authorities that the problem is a consequence of the "unapproved" application that took place during the manufacture of a lubricant to insert the cover into the pedal. Apparently, the excess lubricant "reduced the retention of the cover on the pedal," Tesla claims.
