Catalonia registers an April of maximums for employment

Catalonia registers an April of maximums for employment

Social Security has gained 38,626 contributors in Catalonia in April compared to the month of March, which has placed the total number of employed at 3,675,703, according to data from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations published this Thursday.

With the third straight month of growth, the momentum of Holy Week leads to a record for an April month if the historical series, which goes back to 2004, is reviewed.

In year-on-year terms, the increase in Social Security affiliates is 113,627 people, 3.19% more than in April of last year.

After the blow of the first winter months, the world of work usually picks up in spring. In April unemployment tends to fall and membership grows. Unemployment has also continued in a positive dynamic for the third month with a reduction of 9,506 people on the lists of employment services compared to March, leaving the total at 338,795, the lowest since 2008. Compared to April 2022, there are 25,900 fewer unemployed.

By district, more employment is created in Barcelona, ​​with 15,232 jobs, compared to 12,530 in Girona and 11,644 in Tarragona. In Lleida there is a drop of 780 affiliates.

Unemployment fell above all in Girona, where it fell by almost 5% per month, with 1,491 fewer unemployed, up to a total of 17,542. Tarragona follows, which drops the figure by 4.2%, at 1,730 people and setting its total at 39,709 people. In the case of Lleida there are 498 fewer unemployed, up to 17,542. Barcelona sees unemployment fall by 2.3%, to 5,787 people and with a total of 251,005 people out of work.

Regarding the workers who are still included in temporary employment regulation files (ERTE), there were 2,762 as of April 30.
