Andalusia will create 300 bicycle parking spaces in the metros of its cities

The three Andalusian metros (Seville, Malaga and Granada) and the Bahía de Cádiz tram will have 298 secure parking spaces for bicycles and electric scooters at their stops, the Ministry of Development has reported in a statement.

The Public Works Agency has tendered the supply and installation of secure parking spaces for nearly 300 bicycles and personal mobility vehicles (VMP) at stations and stops on the Seville, Málaga, Granada and Trambahía subways.

These works have an investment of more than half a million euros (581,163 euros) co-financed by the React-EU funds of the European Union and an execution period of four months. Interested companies may submit their offers until August 21.

The Minister of Development, Articulation of Territory and Housing, Rocío Díaz, explained that this investment "is part of the strategy undertaken by the Andalusian Government to promote intermodality" and recalled that there are already metro stations that have bicycle racks or parking spaces for scooters with the possibility of recharging.

"Now we are going one step further, with safe and intelligent parking lots, where the bicycle will be stored in a module," stressed the Minister of Public Works, Articulation of the Territory and Housing.

With this contract, car parks will be installed –four hangar-type modules and seven locker-type modules– with capacity for 298 bicycles in the Andalusian subways and the Trambahía, all of them managed by the Public Works Agency and have the possibility of charging bicycles and electric scooters.

The safe bicycle racks represent a further step in the sustainability strategy and the promotion of the use of public transport in the Andalusian metropolitan areas of the Ministry.
