A drunk driver puts his dog behind the wheel to avoid arrest

On some occasions, the road is the setting for situations that seem to be taken from a movie, like the one that comes to us from the United States. This week, the Colorado police have reported a most surprising episode: a speeding drunk driver tried to avoid arrest by putting a dog behind the wheel pretending that the pet was driving the vehicle.

The events occurred during the night of Saturday May 13 in Springfield, a town of about 1,300 inhabitants located in the east of that state. As the Associated Press (AP) has pointed out, the police began chasing the driver when he detected that he was driving too fast, above the limits allowed on that road.

As the security body explains in a Facebook post, an agent could see the individual moving inside the vehicle, trying to get out on the passenger side. After being discovered, the man assured that he was not behind the wheel -in his place was the dog-.

Given the obvious signs of drunkenness, the agents asked him how much he had drunk. It was then that the man tried to escape without much success; he was intercepted by one of the policemen a few meters away.

After his arrest, the man was transferred to a hospital in the area for a check-up. Ultimately, he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics and driving while impaired. In addition, as reported by AP, he assures that he had previous arrest warrants.

According to the agents, the driver got lost while trying to go from Las Animas to Pueblo. Following the arrest, the dog was turned over to an acquaintance of the offender to care for while he was in jail. Although it may seem incredible, the publication shared by the Springfield police on social networks specifies that "the dog does not face any charges and was released with only a warning."
