A Cantabrian municipality opens a bank for bicycles that are no longer useful for recycling

The Astillero City Council has created a bank of used bicycles, so that residents can donate their old ones and thus give them a new use.

The City Council calls for citizen collaboration to participate in this initiative by giving away bikes that they no longer use and to be able to find another use for them. People who donate their bike will receive a bonus of 10 movie passes at the Sala Bretón.

The Councilor for Citizen Participation, Rubén González, has reported this measure in a statement in which he explains that the objective is to "optimize resources in the municipality and be able to give a new useful life to these bikes that are currently forgotten in homes ".

The initiative is part of the 'Shipyard on Wheels' Strategic Plan and among the new planned uses are increasing the municipal bicycle fleet; its use in activities or events organized by the City Council, such as the School Bike Ride; or for decorative issues in the municipality.

The bicycles must be delivered with all their parts and, upon receipt, they will undergo the corresponding inspection to verify that they can still be used.

The delivery points will be the Astillero City Council, the Local Development Agency and sports facilities such as La Cantábrica and the Guillermo Cortés Pavilion.
