Yolanda Díaz: "Feijóo has no choice; I have the democratic certainty that there will be a progressive government"

Yolanda Díaz is confident that there will be a progressive government and trusts in dialogue as a tool to obtain the necessary support. The second vice president of the acting Government and leader of Sumar has reaffirmed, in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, that she has the "democratic certainty" that there will be a new progressive government in Spain and not only does she not concede to the leader of the PP , Alberto Núñez Feijóo, no chance of success in a hypothetical investiture but also warns him that his leadership at the head of the party that won the July 23 elections "is going out".

This is how Díaz expresses himself in the interview with La Repubblica, in which he declares his "pride" for the fact that Spain has "beat barbarism" and stopped a possible alliance of the PP with Vox at the polls.

"I am very proud of what has happened in Spain, because they are the first elections in a long time in Europe in which the future has defeated the past. The Spanish people have said out loud that they do not want to go back," she boasted, contrasting this situation with the one in Italy, which he refers to as "a testing laboratory for the right and the extreme right".

In addition, he has presented the result of the elections on Sunday as a prelude to what, according to his forecast, will happen in the European elections next year when he is confident that the "reactionary wave" in Europe will also stop. "Here we have shown that they can be defeated, and it will also happen in Europe," he said in the interview, collected by Europa Press.

In this context, he has ensured that Feijóo "has no chance" of reaching La Moncloa. "He was defeated democratically last Sunday and I think his chances of success are nil. This party that is now proposing State pacts is the same one that has been vetoing the renewal of the judiciary for years. Feijóo's leadership is going out today in my country", has sentenced.

And it is that Díaz says he has the "democratic security" that the progressive coalition will be able to re-edit the Government. "The Spanish voted on Sunday and validated the policy of the coalition government. What's more, they have told us that they want more steps to be taken," he emphasized.

In this context, he has called on the country's "progressive and democratic" forces to "live up to" and "guarantee" the investiture of Pedro Sánchez. "I want to transmit peace of mind: the situation is complex, but politics is dialogue and reaching agreements, even with formations that do not think like us," he guaranteed.

Asked what margins exist for dialogue with the former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont and Junts, whose votes are decisive, and who until now have made amnesty and a referendum on self-determination a condition for their eventual support, Díaz emphasized that "the dialogue is the key to everything".

"It must be serene and based on respect -he has abounded-. We have to move discreetly, analyze the starting point, we all know that our point of view is different from his, and see what possibilities there are of meeting. It is our responsibility to find the way to reach an agreement.

Díaz recalled that Sumar has already commissioned the former deputy Jaume Asens to establish a dialogue with the Catalan formations and has stressed that they will work "with discretion". In this sense, he has refused to assess the conditions that Junts has raised as a starting point.

"I am not going to assess any position, as the talks progress we will be able to express ourselves", he limited himself to saying, emphasizing that "in a democracy there must always be the utmost respect for current legislation, and of course for the Constitution" .
