The deputy of Sumar for A Coruña, the political scientist Marta Lois, will be the new spokesperson for the coalition promoted by the acting Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, in Congress, according to what sources from the parliamentary group have confirmed to Europa Press after what was announced by the newspaper 'Public'.
In this way, Díaz places a person of his utmost confidence as the main voice of Sumar in the Lower House. The also professor of Political Science at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) already appeared as president of the instrumental party Movimiento Sumar, which was initially registered as an association before promoting itself as the platform with which the second vice president ran for the general elections of July 23.
Lois has a PhD in Political Science from the University of Santiago de Compostela and has been linked to municipal politics in the Galician capital with Compostela Aberta, a coalition with which she became councilor for Equality, Economic Development and Tourism in the term of former mayor Martiño Noriega between 2015 and 2019. Later, he was spokesman for the local party in the consistory until 2022.
The Galician politician was also appointed by Yolanda Díaz as one of the coordinators of the Sumar work groups, when she was chosen as the person in charge of the Care area. Now, she will be the most visible face of the electoral coalition that has 31 seats in Congress and brings together groups such as Podemos, Izquierda Unida, En Comú Podem, Más Madrid or Compromís.
In practice, Lois will exercise the same role that the former spokesman for United We Can in the Lower House, Pablo Echenique, assumed as spokesman for the confederal group. Then, it was decided that the rest of the parties would also have their own spokesperson both in the plenary sessions and in the weekly press conferences, dividing up the times according to the representativeness of the seats of each formation.
