The new educational projects or the age of the buildings make it necessary to update the buildings with reforms, extensions and improvements in order to keep them in optimal technical and comfort conditions.
The total planned investment is close to 66.7 million euros, 41.5 of which are provided by the City Council, and the rest by the Department of Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
Objective: more efficient and comfortable centers
Among all the actions, the implementation of the Strategic Plan to improve the sustainability of educational centers in Barcelona stands out, which aims to reform the centers to turn them into comfortable spaces, with optimal conditions for learning, and improve their energy efficiency, generation consumption and green energy and indoor and outdoor thermal comfort.
These are actions such as the installation of photovoltaic modules; the rehabilitation of facades and roofs, their interior insulation and their exterior protections; the air conditioning of spaces; the renovation of paint and coatings, since the color and the incidence of natural and artificial light are an important factor in the learning process, and complete or partial reforms of kitchens or fitting out dining rooms.
The playgrounds are an important part of the improvement actions with the aim of turning them into areas with more diversity of play, open to the neighborhoods and naturalized so that they function as climatic refuges during the hottest months.
Interventions have also been carried out to improve accessibility in the centers with the elimination of architectural barriers, the adaptation of railings and stairs, the fitting out of ramps and the reform of toilets and changing rooms.
On the other hand, since the 2020-2021 academic year, the furniture in the classrooms of the city's public schools has been renovated. The chairs and desks for courses I3, I4 and I5 have already been changed, and next year the furniture for the first year of ESO will be renewed.
Great rehabilitations
At the same time, work continues on 34 major actions and new equipment. The transformation of the old facilities of the Joan Coromines Institute, which will house the School Arts Institute, stands out. And in addition to the new headquarters of the Barcelona Sports Institute, the expansion works of the El Til·ler School Institute stand out, as well as the drafting of the Can Maiol School project.
