Wim Wenders, honorary prize at the BCN Film Fest: "Films only belong to those who see them"

"Films only belong to those who see them," said German director Wim Wenders yesterday when he received the honor award from the 7th Barcelona-Sant Jordi International Film Festival (BCN Film Fest) for his film career, at the opening gala of the contest, which will be held until April 28.

The gala was held at the Verdi cinemas in Barcelona, the event's main venue, with some 300 guests, including the mayoress, Ada Colau; the deputy mayor for Culture of Barcelona, Jordi Martí, and the director of the festival, Conxita Casanovas.

Upon receiving the award from the president of the Catalan Film Academy, Judith Colell, and after long applause from a standing audience, Wenders defended that "films have their own life and identity and belong to the public".

The author of titles such as Paris Texas or Sky over Berlin said he felt like an "impostor" receiving this recognition and questioned deserving it, because most of his films have taught him more than vice versa, he revealed.
