Why the transformation of this classic Porsche alone costs almost half a million euros

Surely, many fans of the Porsche sports firm will consider that a car from this brand is difficult to improve. However, despite this, there are many transformation specialists who do not give up and who set out to optimize some of their models to give rise to even more exclusive creations.

Among those specialists is the company Theon Design, based in the southeast of England. It is dedicated, above all, to modifying German vehicles with a few years of experience. For one of his latest works, he has taken as a basis a truly special classic model that was manufactured between 1989 and 1993. It is a copy of the magnificent Porsche 911 Targa (type 964).

To begin with, it must be taken into account that this preparation has not been exactly superficial. And the Theon Design team proceeded, first, to completely disassemble the car and then rebuild it with the variations that were considered appropriate. At first glance, you can see that it maintains the genuine Porsche personality, but when you look closely you can see the many changes present.

One of the first novelties was the replacement of most of the car's body panels with others made of carbon fiber. Only the doors were left in steel in order to maintain greater protection against side impacts. Added to this is the installation of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires associated with 18-inch Fuchs wheels.

Later, a pastel blue exterior color was added and the word Porsche was added in large dimensions and in contrast with the tone of the bodywork both on the sides and at the rear. The biggest changes were made in places hidden from the naked eye. More specifically, the vehicle's chassis was reinforced by two tubes that, according to Theon Design, were designed using carbon manufacturing techniques used in Formula 1.

These tubes are intended to increase the torsional rigidity of the 911, while also keeping the center of gravity as low as possible. The car is powered by a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated engine that has been modified to develop 402 HP of power and 433 Nm of maximum torque. These figures, together with the 1,228 kg of the vehicle, give rise to a weight-power ratio very similar to that of the 991 GT3, as claimed by the English preparers.

Another addition to the German sports car has been the installation of a ceramic exhaust. On the other hand, among the various innovations applied to the interior of the cabin, a modern, high-quality Pioneer sound system and speakers distributed throughout the car stand out. This Porsche 911 has been called GBR003 and, as expected, it is not exactly an affordable proposal.

And a transformation like this, based on a Targa, has a cost close to half a million euros, a figure that does not include the acquisition of the original vehicle itself (which is obviously borne by the owner, and is separate).

It should be noted that Theon Design takes approximately a year and a half to carry out the entire transformation. If you want to know even better some of the creations of these British specialists, you just have to take a look at the video that accompanies this article.
