Why look for talent outside of Badalona for the CACI, if we already have it at home?

"For 17 years we have been looking for talent throughout Catalonia to install it in the CACI without realizing that we already had it at home and we had been ignoring it," said Mayor Xavier Garcia Albiol. After 17 years of searching for a definitive project for its installation in the CACI building, the municipal government of Badalona announced this Friday what the future of the old factory will be. Starting in 2026, the building will become the Badalona City of Music.

The CACI building will be a large cultural complex of more than 5,000 square meters and five floors that will house the permanent headquarters of the Professional Conservatory of Music of Badalona and the School of Modern Music of Badalona. With this action, it will be possible to considerably increase the number of students (currently around 800 between both entities) and with a significant waiting list, and ensure that they can develop their abilities in the best possible conditions.

To make this purpose a reality, the technical services of the City Council have been commissioned to draft the renovation project, which will allow the building to accommodate nearly 30 fully equipped classrooms, the spaces necessary for the management of services, a professional auditorium of about 200 places and a study room open to all citizens.

This project will serve as the basis for the call, before the end of the summer, for an ideas competition to find the architectural solution that best suits the conditions of the building and specified needs. Once the best proposal has been chosen, the executive project and the tender for the works will be made, which will begin at the end of 2025.

The final proposal for the old CACI factory was presented today by Mayor Xavier Garcia Albiol in a press conference in which the First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for the Treasury and Finance, Internal Resources, Sports and Security, Juan Fernández, also participated. and the second deputy mayor and councilor for the Area of Economic and City Promotion, Work, Culture, Citizenship and Government, Cristina Agüera.

Albiol has indicated that the project for the CACI will mean dignifying the situation of the Badalona Conservatory and the School of Modern Music, which currently occupy a building "that is in conditions that are not adequate." In fact, he explained that improvement works will also have to be carried out urgently in the current space of these two centers, while the new project at the CACI is not completed.

Xavier Garcia Albiol has been very satisfied with the solution that has finally been given to the CACI, because it unblocks a entrenched problem, it is given the category it deserves in a unique building and a point of attraction for talent is enabled in the city and that It also wants to be a national and international reference in the cultural field. "For 17 years we have been looking for talent throughout Catalonia to install it at the CACI without realizing that we already had it at home and we had been ignoring it," the mayor remarked. "With this performance we project ourselves as a city that is committed to culture and we consolidate the importance of Badalona as a reference in the field of musical training," he highlighted.
