What will the mobility of the future look like in the ‘Smart Cities’?

The sustainable and smart mobility strategy of the European Commission (“Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy”) establishes that by 2030 at least 30 million electric cars must operate on European roads. And it is that making urban displacement more sustainable is one of the greatest current challenges that we face as a society.

This is just one of the issues that will be analyzed and debated in depth at the third edition of the Barcelona New Economy Week (BNEW), organized by the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona (CZFB), which arrives at the DFactory Barcelona from 3 to October 6. On this occasion, the event will revolve around seven key themes for the new economy: Digital Industry, Real Estate, Mobility, Talent, Sustainability, Invest and Experience.

Conceived during the pandemic, BNEW is a physical and digital B2B event that has been evolving year after year to respond to the situation and needs of today's society, betting on the possibilities, new forms and economic paradigm shift offered by new technologies. The main objective pursued by its organizers is to help generate economic opportunities and promote progress towards the new economy.

Multisectoral, disruptive and hybrid, the event combines a physical space and a digital platform that facilitates presence and networking with high added value between people from all over the world. In this sense, it should be noted that, during the last edition, 47% of the participation was international, with users from 145 different countries.

In the 2022 edition of the BNEW, the CZFB hopes to break the digital attendance record with more than 12,000 people connected, and encourage the participation of a greater number of face-to-face and international attendees after the pandemic. The entity has a forecast of counting, in addition, with the participation of more than 400 companies.

One of the most interesting sections of this edition will be the BNEW Mobility vertical, which will bring together, once again, the main players in the transport and mobility sector. It is a link between the public and private sectors in which they can discuss the best solutions and the most transgressive proposals in terms of mobility.

BNEW Mobility will thus become the main meeting of the sector, in which different topics will be addressed under the axes: Urban Mobility and Smart Cities; Future Mobility, Global Trends and Digitization; micromobility; Urban Air Mobility; electric mobility; sustainable mobility; and innovation.

During the first day of the event, on Monday, October 3, the future of vehicles and public transport will be analyzed, as well as future models for urban traffic. In addition, the challenge of smart roads will be addressed. For its part, on Tuesday it will be the turn of the debates on the railway sector and urban micromobility, among other topics. The next day the new generation and demand players in electric mobility will be announced, as well as the main keys to sustainable mobility. Finally, the last day will address challenges presented by the aviation sector.

For this, BNEW Mobility will have around 100 first-level speakers, such as the CEO of Barcelona Municipal Services (B:SM), Marta Salvador; the director of Zaragoza Logistics Center, Susana Val; the president of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, Marta Subirá i Roca; Lucas Casasnovas, CEO of SEAT MO and Casa SEAT; May López, Development Managing Director of Sustainable Mobility Companies; Arturo Pérez de Lucia, general manager of AEDIVE; o Remona van der Zon, Director of Sustainability Strategy at KLM Royal Dutch Airlines; among others

“Our cities expand year after year, as more and more are home to higher levels of population. In this sense, transport becomes a key element that connects all citizens and companies in the territory”, explains Pere Navarro, special delegate of the State in the CZFB.

“Technologies have the ability to revolutionize the way we move and, thanks to them, we can achieve intelligent mobility that allows us to more accurately quantify the carbon emissions generated by each vehicle. With an agenda full of top-level speakers, BNEW Mobility becomes a reference forum for the search for alliances and solutions around these challenges”.
