Divine show in Vilanova de Sau, in Osona, with several meteorological phenomena, with the arc of fog with the specter of Brocken, thin clouds and the moon, as well as the sea of fog over the valley of Sau with Montseny in the background, as we can contemplate in The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia.
The Brocken spectrum has the colors of the rainbow but inverted, while the arc of fog is white or with very weak colors and can form, as on this occasion, around the spectrum.
The Brocken spectrum can be seen on the opposite side of the sun, like a rainbow, but with the colors reversed.
The reason why it is called the Brocken spectrum can be found in Germany, where, as in the Catalan region of Osona, frequent fog occurs on the Brocken, a peak of the Harz mountains.
The Brocken specter was observed and described by Johann Silberschlag in 1780. Since then, it has often been recorded in German literature when talking about, for example, the devil and witches.
It must be borne in mind that the Osona region is the place in Spain with the most foggy days, around a hundred a year.
In some areas, the popular "Pubilla de la Plana de Vic" is also known as "baixa joke". Basically, it's when a sea of fog comes down and covers everything.
