Vox takes over the presidency of the Balearic Parliament after a preliminary agreement with the PP

Vox will take over the presidency of the Balearic Parliament after a preliminary agreement reached this Monday between the PP and the party of Santiago Abascal that paves the way for a solo government of the popular Marga Prohens. The agreement has been signed a few hours after the celebration of the plenary session of the constitution of Parliament, scheduled for this Tuesday.

The pact also includes a government program that links Prohens even though it does not have Vox in the executive. The program incorporates many of the demands raised by Abascal's party to close the agreement and one of them, central, is what will happen to the Catalan. The text clearly states that parents will be able to choose the first language of instruction. The rules that involve a linguistic imposition will be modified assuming that there are two official languages in the community," the document indicates.

The text avoids talking about gender violence and indicates that action will be taken against "domestic violence". The Government will be urged to identify the rapists who have been released with the “only yes is yes” law and Congress will be asked to demand accountability from those who have collaborated in their release.

The text is very harsh with the case of minors under guardianship in the Balearic Islands. "An audit will be carried out to identify and bring to court each and every one of those involved in the case of sexually accused minor guardians," he says. It is also noted that work will be done to eradicate speech "whether civil or religious" that promotes or justifies violence against women. The document talks about lowering taxes, improving waiting lists and reducing "inefficient" political spending.

The PP achieved 26 of the 59 deputies of the Balearic Parliament in the last regional elections, but it needs at least the abstention of the eight Vox deputies for Marga Prohens to be president. This agreement suggests that Vox will vote in favor of the candidate at the investiture session that could be held on June 27.

The agreement places Prohens closer to a government without Vox, which was the demand with which the negotiation began. Those of Abascal requested from the beginning the presidency of Parliament as a step prior to subsequent talks, which will continue in the coming days. The agreement comes the same day that it has been announced that the leader of Vox in the islands, Jorge Campos, will be the candidate for the elections on July 23.
