Vox's cultural war continues: climate denialism adds to gender denialism in Les Corts

Vox has broken its institutional silence in the Valencian Community and its three councilors - Vicente Barrera, Elisa Nuñez and José Luís Aguirre - have taken advantage of their appearances these days to exhibit their manual to wage the “cultural battle”. A determined commitment to dialectical confrontation with the left on issues of language or economic model, but which also clashes with many consensuses such as the fight against gender violence or climate change that the PP shared and that question the policies of Carlos's executive. Mazon.

Those responsible for the far-right formation have already shown black on white, in the different sessions of Les Corts Valencianes, their political strategy so as not to remain invisible in a government with six councilors and a president of the PP. Vox - aware that it has lost prominence in the national sphere - does not seem willing to moderate its postulates, even if some of them collide with the majority sentiments of the Consell.

In the gallery of Parliament, the first vice president and Minister of Culture, Vicente Barrera, already announced that one of his main objectives in his mandate will be to combat “cultural pan-Catalamism.” From the lectern he denied the unity of the language and announced the end of aid to those entities that, according to him, “conspire” against Valencian culture.

In these first months of the legislature, Vox has made the issue of language its main argument in all institutions. In Les Corts he has asked for the recognition of the Lo Rat Penat titles (which are based on a different regulation than the AVL); At the Alicante City Council, he has requested that the city become part of the areas where linguistic exemption can be requested; while in Valencia, it has dragged the PP to request a change of the place name following unofficial regulations.

Vicente Barrera, former bullfighter, also announced that bullfighting will once again have the favor of the Administration. Days after his appearance, and after learning of the death of a fan during a bous al carrer celebration, the councilor reiterated his intention to subsidize these administrations from the Consell.

For Vox, the world of the bull has strong symbolism. Thus, yesterday the Minister of Agriculture, José Luis Aguirre, assured that his department would provide “specific” support to the wild cattle sector, which he did not hesitate to describe as “one of the sectors that represents the greatest cultural tradition.”

However, the most political part of Aguirre's speech was his fierce criticism of “the perverse 2030 Agenda” for Sustainable Development of the United Nations, which he accused of being behind the suffering of the countryside and industry. The head of Agriculture displayed in the Valencian Chamber the Vox catalog against “climate fanaticism” but also against “animalism” and “pseudo-eclogism.”

And Vox does not deviate from its roadmap, as demonstrated by the Minister of Justice, Elisa Núñez, who in her appearance spoke of domestic violence and limited herself to pointing out that "all victims are equal."

Precisely, this type of gesture and the PP's attempt not to generate more division between the two members of the Consell provoked the so-called banner war since the different parties were unable to agree when it came to concentrating under the same slogan in rejection of the latest sexist murders perpetrated in the Valencian Community.
