The deputy mayor of Madrid, Begoña Villacís, has wrapped up the former leader of Ciudadanos, Albert Rivera, in a colloquium this Wednesday, emphasizing that, although he does not return to politics, his opinion continues to be important for the project of the orange formation.
Rivera has intervened in a colloquium of the Club Siglo XXI, in which he has been presented by Villacís, and attended by the Cs deputy in Congress Miguel Ángel Gutiérrez, councilors in the capital city council and former national leaders such as Marcos de Quintos , Melisa Rodríguez and Juan Carlos Girauta.
Villacís has highlighted that Rivera is deeply "liberal and constitutionalist", which are the hallmarks of the Ciudadanos project, and has settled: "For me, he will always be there."
He has defined him as "one of the best politicians of recent decades" and has considered that he contributed, in his first deeds, to breaking the bipartisanship "without the need to be assisted by populism."
Regarding this act and in the midst of the debate on the future of the party, Ciudadanos sources consulted by EFE have indicated that "at the top of the party it has not been very well understood" that the deputy mayor sponsor Rivera in an act, who has denied in resounding that he could return to politics.
In his speech, Albert Rivera has rejected that the Penal Code be reformed "to measure and with surnames" because it is "the least democratic and liberal" that exists, alluding to the bill presented by the PSOE and Unidas Podemos to eliminate the sedition crime.
Specifically, he has indicated that the Penal Code is one of the fundamental "pillars" of a country and that the reform of any crime, be it embezzlement, sedition or another, should be carried out in a commission and have a debate “serious” and listening to the experts.
Rivera has also affirmed that the electoral polls, beyond those prepared by the Center for Sociological Research (CIS), predict "a center-right majority" after the regional and local elections, although he has qualified that in this context of crisis the governments "they last less".
In addition, he has opined that the coalition government will exhaust the legislature "until the last minute" and that the thermometer for the generals will be the change of sign that can occur in regions such as the Valencian Community, Aragon or Extremadura, governed by the PSOE.
