Victory with comeback sprint by Jorge Martín, who becomes the new leader of MotoGP

The Spanish Jorge Martín "Martinator" (Ducati Desmosedici GP23) dealt an important blow to the championship by achieving victory in the "sprint" race of the Indonesian MotoGP Grand Prix and thus becoming the leader of the world championship, on a day in which the Moto2 pole position went to the Spanish Arón Canet (Kalex) and the Moto3 pole position went to the Brazilian Diogo Moreira (KTM).

Martín is the new leader of the championship with seven points ahead of the Italian Francesco "Pecco" Bagnaia (Ducati Desmosedici GP23), 328 for the first compared to 321 for the second, with Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati Desmosedici GP22), third with 272 points.

Along with Jorge Martín, on the podium of the sprint race, the Italians Luca Marini, author of his first pole position in MotoGP, and his teammate in the VR46 team, Marco Bezzecchi, finished.

The Spanish rider Jorge Martín (Ducati Desmosedici GP23) did "all in" at the Mandalika circuit by achieving victory in the "sprint" race of the Indonesian MotoGP Grand Prix and thus becoming the new leader of the world championship.

Martín's victory, together with the eighth position of the Italian Francesco "Pecco" Bagnaia (Ducati Desmosedici GP23), who could only be thirteenth in the official classification, put on the back burner the possibility of the Madrid native becoming the world leader. and he did not waste the opportunity with a laborious victory starting from sixth place.

Marini did not fail at the start and reached the first corner of the track as the leader, but Maverick Viñales (Aprilia RS-GP) prepared this first part of the track very well and immediately overtook the Italian to lead the race, while Jorge Martín and Marc Márquez ( Honda RC 213 V) recovered positions from the starting formation, although the Honda rider crashed before completing the first lap, in turn eleven, when he had overtaken Aleix Espargaró.

One lap later it is Aleix Espargaró himself who crashes in turn sixteen, trying to recover the lost ground, and in his hasty mistake, he took over the South African Brad Binder (KTM RC 16).

With so many incidents at the beginning of the race, the until now world championship leader "Pecco" Bagnaia found himself going from thirteenth place in the starting lineup to ninth, at the tail end of a stretched leading group in which Viñales was the one who commanded with certain authority over Marini and Martín.

Little by little, Maverick Viñales distanced himself from his rivals, while Jorge Martín put enough pressure on the Italian Luca Marini, who, although author of the pole position, was still not in full physical condition after his recent collarbone injury. .

This is how on the fifth lap Martín "mercilessly" overtook Luca Marini and the "hunt" for Maverick Viñales began, although by then the Aprilia rider had more than nine tenths of a second ahead and the main group had been cut off with five drivers ahead.

With Viñales setting the pace, in his wake Jorge Martín tried to hold on, who in the sixth lap lapped a tenth faster than Aprilia and in the next another three tenths, Luca Marini, the Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha YZR M 1) and Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati Desmosedici GP22).

From behind, Bagnaia tried to recover more positions and on the sixth lap he overtook the Australian Jack Miller (KTM RC 16) to take eighth, but Martín was already less than four tenths of a second behind the race leader, Maverick Viñales, while his teammate Aleix Espargaró, who tried to return to the competition after his fall, ended up retiring.

And it was on the ninth lap when Jorge Martín again saw the opportunity to gain access to the lead by getting inside turn ten against Maverick Viñales, whom he clearly surpassed to leave again alone on his way to his sixth victory in a "sprint" race. ".

Behind, Maverick Viñales "deflated" little by little and one lap later, at the same point, he was overtaken by Luca Marini and, in the last lap, his teammate, Marco Bezzecchi, left him off the podium.

It is noteworthy that both Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi arrived in Indonesia recovering from a clavicle injury, in the case of the latter undergoing surgery just six days ago.

The previous world championship leader, "Pecco" Bagnaia, had to settle for eighth position, without being able to overtake his own teammate, Enea Bastianini, who had previously left him out of the second training classification.
