Vallirana will launch a new water network in 2025 with the help of the Generalitat

The works on the new Vallirana (Barcelona) water network, which will connect this town with the Aigües-Ter Llobregat (ATL) network, will be ready in June 2025, as announced this Wednesday by the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural agenda.

The project, which will connect the Vallirana network with that of ATL, has its origin in the drought situation in which the municipality's water reserves are found, greatly affected by the lack of precipitation.

The director of ATLL, David Vila, present at a meeting with the project commission, was the one who announced the premiere of the new water system for June of next year. This population of Baix Llobregat has been demanding this connection for years.

In this case, as it is an emergency, the administrative deadlines for processing the works have been allowed to be shortened and brought forward one year with respect to the planned calendar, which initially determined its completion for the summer of 2026.

The connection of the Vallirana network with ATL will have an 8-kilometer pipeline, a pumping station and a 3,000 m³ capacity tank. The work, with a budget of 9.9 million euros, will be carried out by the construction company Dragados, who, for its part, plans to start on March 15.

The drought has been especially affecting Vallirana for some time. Already last summer, the use of drinking water for the population was limited due to the lack of water in the aquifers that supply the town.
