Valencia reaffirms its unity (without Vox) to demand more financing at the doors of the investiture

Unit. It was the word that was heard the most yesterday in the statements of the five representatives of employers, unions and political parties who met to update and reaffirm their competence with a triple historical demand for the Valencian Community: the reform of the financing system, some investments according to the population weight of autonomy and the forgiveness of historical debt.

A demand that is renewed at a crucial moment, on the verge of the foreseeable investiture of Pedro Sánchez and at a time when "we must try to ensure that the interests of the Valencian Community are taken into account when it seems that others are making more noise." Hence, the importance and the moment chosen for this renewal of vows.

Within the framework of the investiture negotiations, yesterday it was known that the agreement between PSOE and ERC to support Sánchez included the forgiveness of 15,000 million of Catalonia's debt with the FLA. Following this announcement, Compromís spokesperson in Congress and deputy to Sumar, Àgueda Micó, explained that her coalition “will only support a hypothetical forgiveness of the regional debt if the Valencian debt is included.”

Given the lower capacity for pressure, the Valencian parties choose to give an image of unity. A unit articulated around the Platform for Just Finance, which the PP joined a long time ago, but of which Vox refuses to be a part. At the moment, sources explain to La Vanguardia, Abascal's party has not asked to join this entity that is a sister party to PP, PSPV, Compromís, the CEV employers' association and the UGT and Workers' Commissions unions. It is also not at all clear what would happen if the extreme right decided to request its incorporation into the platform.

The five political, union and business representatives signed yesterday that - in addition to a reform of the financing system (with transitional measures while it is being processed) and real investments in accordance with the weight of autonomy - "the financing deficits accumulated directly by the malfunctioning of the different systems, which have generated an unsustainable debt".

For this reason, it is demanded that "the underfinancing of the current system be financed through an ad hoc fund, not through a line of credit; and that the State assume the accumulated debt that the Generalitat has incurred over the years due to chronic underfinancing".

Some words that contrast a bit with those spoken yesterday morning by the Valencian president, Carlos Mazón, who showed his doubts with the haircuts and debt forgiveness when he understood that it was not a serious mechanism. However, the Valencian president pointed out that, if these debt reductions occur, "the Valencian Community should be the first", given that it is the worst financed.

It does not seem that Mazón is going to renounce the banner of financing against the Government that will presumably be formed next week. In fact, today he will receive the Platform for Just Finançament.
