Up to 500 euros 'prize': the banks that give you money for your payroll

From dishes and televisions to money in hand or telephones. Today, entities opt for cash and devices as a great attraction to attract clients with payroll or pension. If requirements are met, with these promotions the prize reaches 500 euros gross, according to a review of the current offer from the financial comparator Kelisto.

The gift for transferring the payroll can exceed the return on a deposit or a remunerated account if you do not have large savings. "The most important particularities are the permanence that is required of us, the minimum that must be paid by direct debit - checking if it is reached - and requirements that go further such as direct debiting receipts," explains Estefanía González, spokesperson for the portal.

Reviewing the current offer, the highest payment is that of Cajamar, provided that a payroll of a minimum of 4,000 euros is direct debited. For it you get 500 euros as a gift. Somewhat behind are the 400 euros of Banco Santander or the 360 euros of Deutsche Bank, with lower salary requirements.

The payroll or pension is the hook that allows you to access the best offers. Entities are interested in having clients domiciliate it because this way they can better adjust their offers to their profile and get to know them better. "If they know the payroll and the origin of the income, they know the stability of their employment. It is valuable information to offer other cross-products such as cards or mortgages," explains Francisco Rodríguez, researcher at the Funcas think tank. In this way, customer loyalty is stabilized and created.

In some cases the payroll requested for maximum compensation is high. For example, Cajamar's 500 euros are obtained with a salary greater than 4,000 euros. Or the 360 euros from Deutsche Bank with a salary of more than 2,500 euros. Hence, entities have various scales in gifts to capture other smaller amounts.

The highest remuneration with the lowest contribution would be in Santander, since you access a gift of 300 euros in cash for having payrolls or pensions of more than 600 euros and two receipts. "It is a good business for the entities: they manage to attract a very complete client, who at least has their payroll account and several cards in the entity and to whom they can sell many other products over time," González insists.

BBVA also stands out at the top of the offer, although in this case with a phone, a 64 GB iPhone SE3, valued at 528 euros. It is linked to the opening of your online account without commissions, carrying a payroll of at least 800 euros, and also another specific one for a minor between 12 and 17 years old.

The requirements also include communicating only through digital channels, such as Abanca or Targobank (of the Abanca group), or direct debiting receipts. "Banks are changing their offers or launching new promotions at great speed, many with limited duration. It is advisable to be attentive to what is happening in the market so that when the time comes when our bank no longer gives us a juicy offer, we can switch to another quickly," warns González.

In that sense, those that expire first are those of Cajamar, Santander, Abanca, Targobank or Unicaja, this December 31, 2023. The minimum permanence is another point to evaluate, since it can be long: it is up to four years in imagin to receive the highest payment; three years in Cajamar; two in Santander, Abanca, Targobank or Unicaja; and one in BBVA or Openbank.

One factor to take into account is that these payments must be included in the income tax return as movable monetary income, with a rate of 19% for these amounts. The entities themselves note this in the fine print of the offers, so all the figures are gross. "This promotion is subject to taxation," they warn in the footnotes.

In this way, the 500 euros of the best offer become 405 euros after applying taxation; The 400 euros are finally 324 euros; and about 300 euros remain in 243.
