Unzué confesses to Jordi Évole the peculiar way of giving Cruyff's line-ups

This Sunday, Jordi Évole will interview Juan Carlos Unzué. The one who was a goalkeeper in the 90s and also a coach in the highest competition will talk about his career and also about his fight against ALS, a disease that was diagnosed in 2020. And he will do it with some luxury guests such as the exporter Andoni Zubizarreta, the journalist Olga Viza and the actor Dani Rovira.

Évole 'sneaks' into Unzué's house, where he enjoys a meal with all of them and with the woman, the exporter, who gives rise to an intimate chat in which they review the most unforgettable moments of his past as a footballer, including anecdotes that never He has previously explained with Maradona or Cruyff, or his fight with Zubizarreta for ownership in the Barcelona goal.

One of the confessions that the Navarrese explains is the peculiar way that the Dutch coach had of giving out the lineups before a game. "He had the habit of giving the lineup singing, but only from the right side, the goalkeeper was not even named because he normally always played the same (Zubizarreta)."

With Cruyff, the goalkeeper also had a role in these pre-match talks, it was he who decided which players he wanted on the wall in a free kick, for example. One day, Unzué explains, tired of so many substitutions, he spoke up and began to say which players he wanted: “he cut me off and told me that Zubi was going to play and I answered him; 'Ah, I don't know, since you didn't say who was going to play'”.

Unzué never won the game against Zubizarreta in the Barcelona goal and acknowledges that he suffered with the Dutch coach: “I have felt disrespected by Johan. From the way he transmitted me in front of my teammates, how he squeezed me, pressured me... I felt that he was disrespecting me. But I was very wrong. He squeezed me and pressured me because he believed in me and he wanted to bring out my best level ”.

In addition to football, throughout the extensive talk there is also room to talk about Sclerosis, the incurable disease that appeared in his life three years ago. With the positive attitude that has always characterized him since he announced that he had ALS in June 2020, Unzué talks about the importance of enjoying the present, but also about the challenges of living with the effects of this disease, euthanasia and how his wife, María, lives this new role of caretaker that she now occupies.

‘Lo de Évole’ will be broadcast this Sunday, starting at 9:25 p.m. and can be seen live on laSexta. In addition, it can also be followed outside of Spain through the Antena 3 Internacional channel and on the international version of ATRESplayer.
