Ukrainian forces attacked the Russian border regions of Belgorod and Kursk overnight, and also launched a missile over the annexed Crimean peninsula, which was shot down by Russian air defenses, according to local authorities.
In Sevastopol, the missile was intercepted over the water without causing damage to the infrastructure of the Crimean port, said the local governor, Mikhail Razvozzhaev.
In Belgorod, however, material damage was reported due to the Ukrainian attacks, which resumed this Tuesday and continued on Wednesday morning, according to the regional head, Vyacheslav Gladkov.
Gradkov asked, in particular, the residents of the regional capital not to go out on the streets and to stay in air-raid shelters. "The situation in Belgorod remains tense. In the morning there were two attacks," he wrote on Telegram.
This morning, the Russian Defense Ministry further reported that it had destroyed twelve Ukrainian missiles over the Belgorod region.
Also in the Kursk border region, an airstrike from Kyiv damaged an electrical substation this Wednesday and caused power outages in several towns in the area, according to the governor, Román Starovoit.
A Ukrainian attack against Belgorod on December 30 caused at least 25 deaths and more than a hundred wounded. Russian President Vladimir Putin warned this week that the bombing of Belgorod would not go unanswered.
This Tuesday, Russia attacked the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and the northeast of the country with dozens of missiles and drones. The Russian military stated that the targets of the attacks were military companies and warehouses with Western weapons, while in Ukraine they reported at least four deaths and more than 90 wounded in the bombings.
