The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested a 39-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman, both residents of Torregrossa (Pla d'Urgell), who would have falsified the technical sheets of dozens of caravans and later sold them through internet portals buy and sell. Specifically, the agents have detected 40 sales in a year of vehicles with similar characteristics that they are now investigating.
According to the police, the detainees lowered the supposed weight of the caravans below 750 kilograms in order to avoid registration, insurance, name change and going through the General Directorate of Transit (DGT) or an agency.
The investigation began last June when a vehicle technical inspection station detected the technical sheet of a caravan-type vehicle, allegedly tampered with and alerted the Mossos. The agents of the Grup de Recerca i Documentació de Lleida verified its forgery and detected that the caravan was being sold on a sales portal in which there were three profiles that corresponded to a couple residing in Torregrossa.
After corroborating that the suspects had already sold a caravan with falsified documentation in February 2023, the agents learned, last Thursday, July 6, that they were going to materialize another sale at a warehouse owned by them in Torregrossa. . Police waited near the location until the vendors arrived at the point of sale. Then, the agents identified themselves and arrested the man and the woman as alleged perpetrators of a crime of fraud and falsification of a public document.
In addition, the seller, who had arrived at the scene by vehicle, was also criminally charged for testing positive for cocaine in a drug test.
Next, the Mossos searched the warehouse of the detainees where 4 caravans were located, 14 descriptive plates of the manufacturers of caravans weighing more than 750 kg, remains of paper similar to that of the technical sheets, two computers, a printer, a machine for laminate documentation and two mobile phones.
After analyzing the social networks, the Mossos have verified that the detainees would have sold some 40 caravans in a year. The investigation is still open and it is not ruled out that both were involved in other similar fraudulent operations.
Both the man, with a criminal record, and the woman were released after declaring at the police station with the obligation to appear before the judge when required.
