Two migrants were stoned to death and a third was seriously injured by a firearm, near the border wall that divides the United States and Mexico in the city of Tijuana, municipal authorities reported this Friday.

According to information from the Tijuana Municipal Citizen Security and Protection Secretariat (SSPCM), the event occurred on February 11, when the migrants were trying to cross the wall and were approached by several people who "attacked them with rocks until they were hurt." death".

The head of the agency, Fernando Sánchez, told the media this Friday that "the investigation is part of the State Prosecutor's Office; due to the location where they were and the report that the Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP) gave us at night ), we presume that they were migrants and that there is some problem or situation in them".

In addition, the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) confirmed in a statement that one of the victims was identified as 33-year-old Irving Jair, and the wounded man as 35-year-old Alberto, however, the other person was around 40 years old, who also died, has not yet been identified. Of all those involved, the authorities did not report his possible nationality.

These crimes occurred in a mountainous area in eastern Tijuana, on the border with the municipality of Tecate and near where there is no border fence, an area controlled by people traffickers linked to organized crime.

It is through this place that the so-called "coyotes" often cross migrants who use their services or where criminals take the opportunity to assault migrants who are at risk of crossing alone through this area.

The mayor of Tijuana, Montserrat Caballero, shared with the media that "on the issue of migrants, Tijuana lends itself a lot to human trafficking," which is why work is being done in coordination with the FGE to address this problem.

The region is experiencing an unprecedented migratory flow with 2.76 million undocumented immigrants detained at the United States border with Mexico in fiscal year 2022.
