Two arrested for a dozen robberies of elderly people at ATMs in Madrid

The Civil Guard has arrested two women of Romanian nationality who were responsible for a dozen careless robberies of the elderly when they were withdrawing money from ATMs in Tres Cantos, Collado Villalba and Majadahonda.

As reported this Friday by the Madrid Civil Guard headquarters, last October the first complaint was received from an 80-year-old man who stated that a young woman had stolen 900 euros from his bank account when he was preparing to withdraw money. of a bank branch.

The old man's story coincided with that given by other victims: a young woman, wearing a mask, hair up, and a cap approached the ATM customers when they had entered their card pin.

That's when they approach them claiming that the cashier has kept their card. They cover the bill dispenser with some propaganda leaflet and take advantage of the moment of confusion to type in the figure, take the money and leave the place.

The agents have also verified that in the vicinity there was a vehicle that they used to flee the town.

The detainees have fixed their residence in Getafe, the town from which they moved to commit the robberies.

To date, twelve criminal acts have been attributed to them, committed in the towns of Tres Cantos, Collado Villalba and Majadahonda, although after contacting the banking entities, they could have committed close to a hundred using this typology.

To avoid this type of theft, the Civil Guard recommends checking the environment before using an ATM, protecting the panel where the PIN is entered and not allowing another person to approach or manipulate the keyboard.
