Twitter has already announced that it is laying off 26 workers from the workforce in Spain, according to UGT

The general secretary of UGT, Pepe Álvarez, has informed through his social networks that Twitter Spain SL would have communicated in writing the dismissal of 26 company workers.

“It reaches us that Twitter Spain SL dismisses its 26 workers by mail. In our country it must be done as a collective dismissal, it requires opening a consultation period, negotiating 15 days and communicating it to the labor authority. Failure to do so makes the layoffs null and void”, Álvarez tweeted.

“The company – he continued – will have to reinstate all those laid off. UGT makes itself available to those affected to challenge collectively and will denounce the company's actions before the labor inspection.

The general secretary of UGT argues that "the dismissals of Twitter Spain SL demonstrate the need to recover prior administrative authorization in collective dismissals". "It was left pending in the last reform, and it is evident that we have to take it. People cannot being so unprotected,” she asserted.

He denounces that "a social and legal state cannot allow a man, no matter how rich he may be, to leave people without work by trampling on their rights. UGT is going to fight it. All support for the workers of Twitter Global."

After the massive layoffs in the United States, Asia and much of Europe, employees in Spain feared that Musk would also fire the entire workforce.

This was corroborated by sources from Twitter workers to Efe, explaining that they feared the absolute "extinction" of the technology company's staff in the national territory - an action that would mean the dismissal of thirty workers - and that they were already organizing to seek legal advice.
