Xavier Trias warns that the mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, will make “a serious mistake” if he ends up agreeing with BComú and ERC on a government coalition in the City Council because that is not what the city demands. The former mayor and leader of the main municipal opposition group confirms that in recent days there has been a “change of will” by Collboni that could be due to “party interests”, in reference to the possibility that the three left-wing parties will end forming a government in Barcelona while uniting to facilitate the approval of the latest budgets of the Generalitat before the Catalan elections.
In an interview on Rac 1, the leader of Junts in the City Council said today that socialists and republicans are not acting coherently. “They appeared in the elections saying that they would not agree with Colau and now, probably, the opposite will happen and we will have another tripartite party,” he stated.
The former mayor admits that in the ranks of Junts there are those who would not welcome an agreement with Collboni, but that, ultimately, a government between PSC and Junts would be the best option for Barcelona and Catalonia. “We would calm things down in the short term,” said Trias, who reiterated that within a maximum period of a month and a half, when the mystery surrounding the agreements has been resolved, he will leave the City Council. “I have committed to officiating a wedding and I will wait until then to keep my word,” he revealed.
The statements made on Saturday by the leader of BComú, Ada Colau, ensuring that Mayor Collboni's priority option is a tripartite pact with commoners and republicans, have not sat well with the PSC. The socialists have chosen to surround the talks for the expansion of the government with maximum discretion and have been bothered by Colau speaking through them.
