Three campsites evicted by a forest fire in Roussillon that has already burned 300 hectares

More than half a thousand firefighters and various air crews are working to put out a forest fire that broke out this Monday afternoon in the town of Sant Andreu de Sureda, in Roussillon, near the municipality of Perpignan.

According to various local media reports, the fire would have already affected some 300 hectares. The smoke has forced the evacuation of several campsites, in which some of the structures have been affected. In addition, some 3,500 people have been evacuated.

On the other hand, the residents of the area have been regularly hearing small explosions of gas cylinders. In addition, according to TV3, the fire has affected houses and vehicles in Sant Andreu de Sureda, near Argelers.

They also report that right now the fire is still active and that the complications are derived from the strong gusts of wind that blow in the area. Some of the roads near the municipality are closed, so the authorities also ask to avoid the area and facilitate access to emergency services.
