They estimate that nearly a hundred pets perished in the Valencia fire

There is no official record, as confirmed to La Vanguardia by the general director of Natural and Animal Environment of the Generalitat Valenciana, Raúl Mérida, but according to the testimonies of the residents of the Campanar property, it is estimated that the dogs and cats that perished in the fire last Wednesday may be close to a hundred. Animal organizations handle figures that speak of about 50 dogs and 40 cats.

It is known that many of these animals were alone, because their owners were not at home. The case of the dog that was found dead along with its owners is well known, and that of a young Ukrainian woman, Elisa, who was unable to rescue hers, as she went out with her partner to the Post Office to carry out a transaction and when she returned she could not. access the building that was on fire.

Another neighbor, Iris, declared before the Tele5 cameras that she was at work when the incident began and when they told her that her property was on fire, she returned and tried to access it, but the firefighters prevented her from doing so. Inside it was her cat: "With the air everything burned and there were many people like me who have lost animals and we have not been able to save," she said.

A few hours after the incident, the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, already announced that the authorities had contacted the animal shelter to take care of any animal that needed help, and several veterinary clinics offered their services free of charge. Mérida explains that, logically, owners who keep their pets prefer to be with them, and efforts have been made to make this happen.
