They attack a young transsexual in Granada shouting "transvestite" and "faggot"

It was not the first time she had been attacked and, presumably, by the same people. A young transsexual resident of Atarfe, in Granada, suffered a brutal attack this Friday by at least ten individuals, who attacked her because of her gender identity.

The girl, who had to be transferred to the Neurotraumatology Hospital of Granada, was with her partner in a local park when, without saying a word, she suffered a series of blows and kicks by a family clan shouting "faggot." ” or “transvestite”, according to Ideal Granada.

The Civil Guard has already opened an investigation into the events, which may constitute a crime of injuries and another of hate based on gender identity, although no arrests have yet been made. For its part, the City Council of this Granada municipality wanted to show its "dismay" at the attack and asks that justice act against the aggressors "with the forcefulness that the laws provide for these crimes."

It was around 9:30 p.m. on Friday when this 31-year-old resident of Atarfe was the victim of the attacks and rage of a dozen people, apparently members of the same repeat offender family, as the young woman's family points out. , for the sole reason of being transsexual. The woman had been enduring harassment for months from these people, who had already attacked her at the beginning of the summer and who had been subjecting her to harassment since then, as the Trans Association of Andalusia (ATA-Sylvia Rivera) has announced.

Finally, on Friday they physically attacked her again, shouting hateful slogans such as “faggot” or “transvestite.” For this reason, this entity, which denounces the “inaction” of the Civil Guard despite the fact that the authors “are identified”, requests that this matter be considered a hate crime. "The inaction of the authorities sends a message of impunity and, as is being seen, opens 'the hunting ground' for trans people," declared the president of ATA, who points out that "in recent years, trans people are living a hate campaign spread through different media that has not been stopped." "It is unacceptable that in a rule of law and in full democracy, trans people and our families live in fear and institutions do not protect us, "This requires an urgent response from the State," he claimed.

"These criminal acts, inadmissible in a democratic society, are the natural consequence of the hate speech promoted by those who deny the human rights of an entire group based on their sexual orientation and gender identity," said the International Human Rights Foundation, “We trust that, as soon as possible, the perpetrators of such atrocity will respond to Justice for the assumption of all criminal responsibilities derived from their actions. Transphobia has no place in our society," she concludes.

The local administration has also condemned the attack and, through a municipal side, points out that the Government "does not tolerate or accept any act of violence or hate speech that promotes discrimination and violates human rights, especially those related to sexual orientation and gender identity. "This incident," the letter continues, "reminds us of the need to act decisively as a society to condemn these crimes and protect victims," while stating that "we will continue to work tirelessly to promote a safe and welcoming environment for all people in Atarfe" and also to "defend diversity".

This type of criminal actions greatly worries organizations in defense of differences and a large part of citizens. In 2022 alone, a total of 1,869 hate crimes have been registered in Spain, as stated in the report on this matter prepared by the Ministry of the Interior and consulted by La Vanguardia, which reflects that hate attacks based on sex and gender, whether verbal or physical, have increased by 76.64% compared to 2021.

Of the total, 207 have been committed in Andalusia, and 21 of them due to transphobia. The region occupies fourth place in this shameful ranking, only surpassed by the Basque Country (with 64 attacks), Navarra (26) and the Community of Madrid (25).
