The woman accused of cutting off her boyfriend's penis accepts 7 years in prison: "At that time it was not good"

The accused, Tanya, 38, cut off her partner's penis with a kitchen knife. It was on May 31, 2021 in a bar in Sant Andreu de la Barca where they both worked. The woman acted treacherously after convincing the man to cover his eyes to perform fellatio while he hid the knife in her pocket. This Tuesday the accused acknowledged the facts before the section 20 court of the Barcelona Court and accepted a sentence of seven years in prison after reaching an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office and the mutilated man's lawyer. In addition, she agrees to pay 250,000 euros in civil liability.

The woman, who is free after having spent two years in preventive detention, explained that before the events occurred "she was not well" and had been diagnosed with major depressive syndrome. She had been dating Abdul for several years, who, in addition to her partner, was her boss. It was an extramarital relationship. The 50-year-old man was married to another woman in Bangladesh with whom he had children. The accused had become pregnant twice but she aborted by mutual agreement. At the time of the events, Abdul had a ticket to go to Bangladesh to visit his wife. Taking advantage of the fact that the man was blindfolded, the woman took out the knife and cut off his penis almost completely, 2 cm from the base. "I'm very sorry, at that time I was not well," the woman explained during the trial using the right to the last word.

The man ran two bars in Sant Andreu de la Barca. 'El Sybarita de la Barca' and 'el bar Pirata' with which he had an income of between 2,000 and 3,000 euros. After the mutilation, he has lost everything. He now lives with a relative and works part-time in a supermarket where he earns 650 euros. When the woman insisted on having sex, Abdul turned off the video surveillance cameras to keep his privacy safe. After the attack and while trying to stop the bleeding, the man tried to flee the premises but the woman intervened, as he recalled in court. It was at that moment that he turned on the cameras so that they could capture how his attacker would not let him leave. Those images before and after the events, along with Abdul's story, were decisive in Tanya's arrest. At first, she said that her boss had sexually assaulted her, ignoring the fact that they both lived together and were a couple. Since then, Abdul has suffered serious dysfunctions in carrying out his daily activities and is awaiting the implantation of a prosthesis.

The prosecution has reached an agreement with the accused and with the private prosecution and has decided to reduce the ten-year prison sentence that was originally requested to another of seven years. Before the trial, the public prosecutor's office requested a conviction for Tanya for the crime of genital mutilation, but at the end of the hearing she changed her mind. The crime of genital mutilation was introduced into the Penal Code to punish female genital mutilation," the prosecutor reasoned. So she has finally formulated the accusation for a crime of aggravated injuries that carries the same penalty.
