The viewpoint of the Glòries tower piques the interest of Barcelona residents

The 360º viewpoint of the Glòries tower is postulating itself as one of the new centers of tourist interest in the Catalan capital. A little over a year ago, the building opened its roof to the public and, despite the fact that a visit to the shed costs around twenty euros, a third of its visitors come from the Barcelona region.

In this way, of its more than one hundred thousand visitors registered during its first year in operation, 48% are foreigners, mainly from France, Germany, Italy and the United States, while the remaining 52% are Spanish: more than 31.46 % comes from one of the Barcelona regions, 3.2% from Girona, Tarragona and Lleida, and 17.36% from the rest of Spain, especially from the communities of Madrid, Valencia and the Balearic Islands.

These data are especially revealing since the debate about how many tourists Barcelona can take in has been revolving around two main questions for decades: can the city's tourist attractions really be decentralized? And can the residents of this city share spaces with tourists? because at times, many times, the truth is that it seems not, that as soon as the visitors take a place, the natives suffer a kind of immediate disaffection for that space.

It is not just a top floor that offers spectacular views. It also has Cloud Cities Barcelona, an interactive sculpture signed by the artist Tomás Saraceno, not suitable for those who suffer from vertigo –and neither for those who don't have good knees–, as well as some basses that, as a prologue and a In a very alternative way, they explain many aspects of this city, about its beings, its waters, its noises, its stars, its pollution, its air traffic...

The truth is that the 144 meters of steel and glass of the Torre Glòries and its nearly 40 floors have always aroused the interest of the people of Barcelona, ever since the architect Jean Novell drew it in the early stages of this millennium. The viewpoint project was developed by Mediapro Exhibitions, at the request of the last owners of the property, from Merlin Properties.
