The UK Government, through The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, has published an advertisement for the post of Governor of Gibraltar on Linkedin, a social network focused on the labor market.

The Governor of Gibraltar is "His Majesty the King's representative" on the Rock, the announcement describes, and "carries out a number of fundamentally important constitutional responsibilities including the formal appointment of the Chief Minister and the government after an election."

It also includes "oversight of Gibraltar's military forces and good governance, as well as sole responsibility for defense and security."

In this sense, he acts as "commander-in-chief of the British Armed Forces in Gibraltar", whereby the Chief of the Defense Staff "shall ensure that any designated person, civilian or military, has the full support and information necessary to fulfill these functions.

It is a “unique in public service” role, “high-profile and highly political” that is “demanding, but rewarding,” the ad adds.

The British Government's public employment portal, which also publishes the announcement, explains that the annual salary for this position is 95,000 pounds (almost 107,000 euros, at today's exchange rate).

The position, to which only citizens of British nationality can aspire, is for a period of four years that will begin from May 2024
