The Sau reservoir has already filled up a little, but it has been enough for the trace of the old Gothic bridge to be lost again, once again submerged in the waters, as I have verified when taking these photographs that we see in Photos from La Vanguardia Readers.
The origins of the town of Sant Romà de Sau date back to the 10th century. At that time, although it was a small town, it had a few farmhouses, a few houses, a mill, a Romanesque church, a cemetery...
Furthermore, from the end of the 14th century it had a bridge, with five arches, which was the most notable of those that crossed the River Ter. And it is the one that began to be seen at the end of February because the swamp was only 1% of its capacity. Now it exceeds 3%.
With the last rains in March, although not very heavy, it has already been enough for the piece of bridge that had come to the surface and that had created so much expectation to be hidden again.
The Sau reservoir, located in the municipality of Vilanova de Sau, is at the foot of the Guilleries massif. In these photographs we see how the fog envelops the reservoir and the surrounding mountains.
Sau is part of a system of three reservoirs, along with those of Susqueda and Pasteral, which unites the regions of Osona and La Selva. Of the three, the last is the one that is best withstanding the consequences of the drought.
