The Tenerife forest fire is reactivated and 2,600 people are evacuated as a precaution

The reactivation of the Tenerife forest fire in the upper area of the municipalities of Santa Úrsula and La Orotava led this Thursday to the precautionary evacuation of about 2,600 people (2,400 in La Corujera and 200 in Pino Alto). The hot conditions, with temperatures around 39 degrees in the north of Tenerife, as well as the wind and low humidity make extinguishing efforts difficult.

Until 10 p.m., the fire had affected approximately 30 hectares, a portion of which is within the perimeter of the August fire. At midnight, given the evolution of the fire and the proximity of the flames to the homes in La Corujera, in the municipality of Santa Úrsula, the Government of the Canary Islands declared level 2 of INFOCA and assumed control direction. The UME was also activated.

The fire remains at a distance from the homes of Pino Alto, where different Firefighters and Brifor units work. Two new outbreaks of fire have also emerged in the Aguamansa area, which were put out by BRIFOR and the Orotava Civil Protection. Simultaneously, the flames have been reproduced on the La Florida Hillside, in an area that is impossible to access by land means and whose Evolution will be monitored over the next few hours.

The August fire destroyed more than 15,000 hectares - more than 5,500 in La Orotova - and affected a perimeter of 88 kilometers in 12 of the 31 municipalities on the island.
