The squatters return to the center and take over a 1,000-meter building near the trail

The squatters have returned to the center of the capital. The Rosa collective has been installed in the building on Bastero Street between Rastro and Toledo Street for three days, reports Telemadrid.

It is a building of about a thousand square meters with five floors that has been unoccupied for many years.

A spokesperson for the municipal police explains to La Vanguardia that "they cannot proceed with the eviction if there is no court order." To which he adds: "First we have to see if the squatters have an eviction order, but in any case it is the ownership of the property, unless it is publicly owned, who has to file the complaint." Then, continues the local police spokesperson, "it depends on which court it falls into." Furthermore, he adds, "with the express law in three months they must leave, but it all depends if there are children, if they traffic drugs, if their presence produces insecurity in the area..."

The property has been taken over by the Rosa collective under the argument that they intend to become "the social and political axis" and that they are "against gentrification and touristification." Furthermore, they consider that the center of the capital cannot "become a private preserve for tourism in the capital."

They defend that they want to promote the property becoming "a meeting place for the political groups of Madrid." The neighbors are afraid that it will become a new source of insecurity and drugs, as happened with the La Quimera property, which was vacated a year and a half ago.
