The Specter of Sau Valley

In these images in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos we can contemplate the fog over the Sau Valley with the effect of the Brocken spectrum, in Vilanova de Sau, in the Osona region.

The Brocken spectrum is the seemingly enormous and magnified shadow of an observer, cast on the upper surfaces of clouds on the other side of the sun.

This phenomenon can appear on any foggy mountain slope or cloud bank, as in this case in the Sau Valley, or even from an airplane.

It is called the Brocken Specter because, in Germany, the frequent fogs and low-altitude accessibility of the Brocken, a peak in the Harz Mountains, have created a local legend.

The Sau Valley is ideal for routes to get to know the landscape and admire all the phenomena of the forest. In reality, there are up to 17 routes with a total of more than 250 marked kilometers.

The Osona region is the place in Spain with the most days of fog (a hundred) a year, making it an intrinsic element of its landscape and its people.

In some areas, the fog or Pubilla de Vic is also known as "baixa joke", because the sea of low fog covers the entire landscape. Autumn is like the peak season of fog.
